La Sociedad
LA SOCIEDAD is a group of musicians from the city's most notable professional ensembles and academic institutions that present a regular chamber music activity. LA SOCIEDAD focuses its artistic activity performing new music and carryin out various interdisciplinary collaborations.
In recent years they have been very active, recording new music from contemporary composers in different projects. Some of the most important productions are “Cuatro Senderos” with music by composers Roberto Rubio, Pedro Ramírez, Gustavo Parra and Horacio Lapidus. They also recorded a piece by composer Moisès Bertran in a CD of the series “Retratos de un compositor” produced by “El Banco de la República”. They have also recorded several pieces for Youtube from composers like Juan David Osorio, Pedro Sarmiento, Sebastian Rodríguez, Carolina Noguera among others.
They were invited in 2023 to participate in the concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of “El Banco de la República” at the prestigious “Sala de Conciertos de la Biblioteca Luis Angel Arango”. They also open the concert season of that hall in 2022 in a concert featuring music from Colombian contemporary composers. They were asked to perform at the Teatro Mayor in Bogotá in 2020 also in a concert featuring new music by colombian composers.
They were the artists in residence at the National University of Colombia's international event "Gugak Contemporary Ensemble & La Sociedad" in August 2019. They were the ensemble in residence at the Colombian Circle of Contemporary Music's “Jornadas de música contemporánea” in april of the same year.
In 2018 They were invited to the Cali International Chamber Music Festival and also performed a series of concerts at the “Universidad del Cauca”. On the invitation of the Colombian Circle of Contemporary Music, they performed at the “Jornadas de música contemporánea” in April of the same year. In the same month, they performed the “Brain in Concert" at the “Feria del Libro de Bogotá” in conjunction with the release of Dr. Rodolfo Llinás' biography.
LA SOCIEDAD was invited to a series of concerts at Virginia Tech University in Virginia, United States, in March 2017, and was the resident ensemble at CAMARAFEST 2015 Chamber Music Festival in Manizales in December 2015. In May of 2015, the Society took part in the theatrical production Otelo, produced by “La Compañia Estable”, by performing original music by Colombian percussionist and composer Samuel Torres.
During the months of May and June of 2014, LA SOCIEDAD performed in a number of Brazilian cities, highlighting their participation in the “Festival Internacional de Musica Preludios” and their presentation at the prestigious “Casa Do Nucleo” in Sao Paulo.
